How to Get More Done in Less Time
Our time is important to us, and for those of us who want to work on ourselves, create a better life for our families, help others, etc we have more and more items on our to do list everyday. And even the more efficient person will find that you can never finish. There will always be something else that you should do. But we can’t create extra time, sure we can always attempt to live longer through good health. However, if you make it to 90 instead of 80 do you really want the extra time at that age,or would you like 10 years of free time to spend with family, travel, do the things you love NOW?
Never forget that now is all you’ve got. Even if you have a great future ahead, you’re always on the journey. You only arrive when you die. So you must find a way to do the things you love, spend time with the people you love and enjoy the journey NOW. It’s easy to fall in the trap of constantly working on the to-do list. But if you focus on getting more done in less time you actually create truly FREE time in your life.
Doing this is actually very easy. All it takes is Focus. Focus doesn’t always come easy. There is so much to do that we usually attempt to multi-task and do everything at once. Divide your attention and everything you try to do will suffer. Focusing on one thing at a time means you get it done faster AND you do a better job. Remember, as I learned from Brian Tracy: What you focus on grows.
Applying focus in life is not that hard. Plan each day at the start. What is truly important? What needs to be done TODAY? Create a list of only the important things. Remember this list should also include your exercise, your time with your kids, etc. these things are important. It’s important not to work this like a usual to do list and just work your way through it. You need to actually schedule your tasks into your day.
Now is where Focus comes in. When you reach the time you set aside for a task you can ONLY focus on the given task. You need to shut down your email, send the phone straight to voicemail and find a quiet space. If you need to use the computer or internet for your task it is imperitive that you close every single unneccessary open window or tab. The temptation to hit refresh and just have a look at emails can be overwhelming. The worst distraction is sites like Twitter or Facebook. If the tabs or windows are not open it would take a conscious decision from you to check Twitter or your emails, and now you know that it would be detrimental to your Focus and you can make the right decision. The tidier your screen, your desk, etc, the easier it will be for you to apply proper focus.
So keep it simple: what will you do, when will you do it, and just turn off any distractions. When you first do this you may find you are tempted to check your voicemails, looks at email, etc. But everytime you go to do it, stop yourself, remember the power of focus, and go back to the task at hand. I guarantee you will get faster and better at everything you do. And when you get more done in less time you will create more free time to do what you want to do.

After 2003′s Long Time Coming plunged the once-up-and-coming blues guitarist into more soulful and commercial waters, Turn Around completes the transition. Lang is lyrically direct in his spiritual awakening, and the uplifting if sometimes pedantic lyrics make it clear that any vestiges of the teenaged guitar s… |

It’s on Tonight $9.14 The phrase “It’s On Tonight,” is a catch-word leading to nocturnal negotiations. On this, his seventh CD as a leader, the Illinois-born keyboardist Brian Culberston composed a 12-song “seduction suite,” designed to inspire moonlight maneuvers–legal or illicit. His cohorts in carnal knowledge and crime include several vocalists: Will Downing’s impassioned baritone imbues the zesty title track. The… |
