What are the basic acoustic guitar chords?
I need to learn the basic guitar chords. If you have a website that has a printable document with it, please list it! I really need to learn these. Thanks in advance!
Any time I’m teaching a total beginner, I teach them what are called “open chords” which means that they utilize open strings. I typically teach them these ones first:
G, C, D, E, A, E-, A-, D-
There are thousands of songs using only these chords or a small variation (turning the E, A, or D into E7, A7, or D7 for example).
Here’s a pretty nice chart with lots of open chords (and a few barre chords for good measure). You needn’t worry about learning 13th chords and stuff right now; just learn those 8 I mentioned and you’ll be ready to play some music, then start tackling tougher chords as they come your way.
