Is an expansive knowledge of chords neccessary in order to be a great guitar player?
i mean, do i need to know 50,000 chords to be a great guitar player? or can i get the job done with just a few chords? i’ve checked out a few guitar lesson websites and it seems that there might be more chords than i can remember.
There are 12 notes to build a chord on, and then there different types of chords
e.g. major triad, minor triad, major 7th, minor 7th, 9ths, diminished, augmented etc.
The more chords you know the better you will be. Think of your knowledge of chords as your musical vocabulary. Just like in speech or writing, the better your vocabulary, the more options you’ve got to express yourself.
