Every Single Guitar Chord

What are the different ways a listener actually HEARS a piece of music?

From what I remember, people hear music in at least three different ways. Some hear lyrically, meaning they focus specifically on the words or meaning of a song. Others hear one single, cohesive sound. A few, like me, hear each and every instrumental line (drum line, bass line, guitar riffs, chord progressions, lyrics, etc…) without it being particularly linked into one sound. Does anyone know the actual TERMS for these different methods of musical listening.

I have found there are actually many different ways of processing and hearing music..I have worked in a recording studio and can listen to a CD and hear the indivdual tracks and sort them in my head. I like different songs for different reasons..sometimes I really like the music..and sometimes it is the lyrics that draw me in…or it might be both…or there might be some particular portion of the song, an instrumental portion that really attracts me. I might listen to the same song 200 times in one day to pick up every single nuance (yes, it drives people nuts) and I rarely find another person that enjoys listening to music with me…except when I have worked in Nashville
