Classical Guitar 1st String Sound Adjustment?
Hi,
I bought a 2009 Kenny Hill Ruck Model a few months ago. Its 1st string has a sound that I would call “stringent,” and “uneasy.” Its tone just doesn’t match the 2 other nylon strings for melody lines. Instead of experimenting with strings of different gauge and brand, is there anything I can do on the guitar physically say send it to a luthier to adjust? I prefer not to send it to a luthier due to limited budget and I am currently in a country that such service is not really available. I also do not want to damage my guitar by doing something too crazy myself.

I had good D’Addario Strings put on when I bought it. I have never had problems with D’Addario before. I assumed the problem did not come from the string but the guitar. But than I guess you are right. Maybe the 1st string is flawed. I will try changing a new set on strings first.

Well, frankly my first reaction is to suggest that you try another set and brand of strings to see if the problem disappears or persists. That's certainly the easiest, safest, and least expensive thing to try and also the most logical thing to try first. Bad strings are rare but not unheard of. I was surprised that you did not say that you had tried different strings and the problem persisted.

I have always used Savarez 520R red card high tension strings on my Ramirez but there are lots of other good brands. Augustine and Hannabach are also highly regarded.
