How To Choose Cheap Electric Guitars
There are many cheap electric guitars on the market and these can provide an excellent introduction to electric guitar playing for the beginner. When purchasing an electric guitar however it is worth considering two important points:
The first consideration is the reputation of the manufacturer.
The problem with some cheap electric guitars from less well-known suppliers is that they can be poorly constructed, both in terms of their build method and in the components that are used.
In some cases for example the position of the strings (known as the ‘action’) can be rather high above the fret board, making it very difficult for the fretting fingers to hold the strings down, leading to increased fingertip pain and muffled notes.
Annoying niggles such as a loose jack for the lead, can also be a frustration with poor quality guitars, resulting in unreliable amplification and consequent humiliation when attempting to use the guitar in performance.
Buying a guitar from a reputable brand or source can often give reassurance that such technical problems will not be an issue. Making a choice based on a brand name can also save time when shopping around for a guitar.
The second consideration is what the full cost will be once all the necessary ancillary equipment is purchased on top.
In some cases having to buy a lead, an amp, and an electronic tuner, can push the cost of what was a cheap guitar into a rather unwelcome total outlay. A cost-effective alternative is to invest in one of the electric guitar packages that are available where a guitar and all necessary accessories, including an amp, are available at a great value all-inclusive price.
At Fret Music we have a wide range of competitively priced brand name guitars, and we also stock some excellent electric guitar packages.
